In an interview after the first game of the doubleheader today a reporter asked if Leyland was concerned about Raburn and Inge not hitting or struggling, believe it or not Leyland responded by saying that Boesch was also struggling. Um ok, I will give you that Boesch is struggling but struggling for Boesch is a .240 batting average. Not great but respectable for the start if the start week of the season. The only problem is that Raburn’s batting average at the start of the first game today was a miserable .074 and Inge wasn’t much better with a mighty .077. There really is no comparison. I am not sure what Leyland sees in Inge and Raburn. It is going to be real difficult to win games with two starters who’s batting averages have yet to break the .080 barrier. And people wonder why we aren’t scoring as many runs as we were the first two weeks. That combined with terrible bullpen issues with Schlereth and losing Fister to the DL. Fortunately, one issue has been corrected with Dombrowski sending Schlereth packing to Toledo, but I am not sure if the guy that they brought up is any good or not. Can’t remember his name right now. Hope we win the second game tonight, especially with the great performance by Verlander. We are leading right now 3-1. We will see. It would be nice to split the series 2-2, we could do it but need to win this game and the game tomorrow. It would be a great way to build some confidence.
